Lesson 2: Encourage Know Your Normal
Kris found a lump on her boob when she was 22. After being turned away at the Doctor’s twice during 8 months for being too young , despite also experiencing other common symptoms, Kris was finally diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer at the incredibly young age of 23. Owing to the time it took to diagnose from when Kris came across the first symptoms, the cancer had spread from Kris’ boob to other parts of her body and was therefore treatable, but incurable. She had stage 4 breast cancer. Kris and her twin sister Maren, who you can see here, set up the breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! to make sure this didn’t happen to anyone else – especially to other young people, giving every person the best possible chance of surviving breast cancer by educating each and every one of you on the importance of getting to know your boobs!
This slide should show a video of CoppaFeel! founder Kris Hallenga in 2014 discussing her cancer diagnosis at the age of 22 on BBC’s Newsnight. You can access (and download) the video from the video resources page of the school pack, or via this link:
There isn’t a particular method to checking your boobs or pecs, it’s just best to just do whatever feels comfortable for you. The Checking Video will tell you all you need to know… [To access and download the video for this slide, head to this link or the video resources spread within the school pack]
