The story of Party Cloe is one of the nearest and dearest to my heart. Of all my Bratz, the tale behind these two Party dolls stands on the most in my memory, and is one that I always think of. It all began in 2011, the year that my adult doll collection started. During this first year of rediscovering my passion, I also rekindled my forgotten love for Bratz too. Of all the many dolls that were in stores at the time, it was only Bratz that I bothered to purchase brand new. In the earliest days, it was only one or two here and there. But by that fall, I started to get them in waves. What fed my thirst for the Party dolls was the discovery of Yasmin on clearance at the local Wal-Mart, for just $7.50. Not only was I satisfied by the fact that she came with spare outfits, but I was also enchanted by her gorgeous 2010 facial screening AND saran hair. Not long later, I found Party Jade and Sasha by chance at Toys ‘R’ Us, they also happened to be on sale. My memory of that night is a tad hazy. I can’t recall if Party Cloe was at TRU or not. But whether or not she was present, it didn’t matter. Why? Well, the On the Mic Bratz Boyz had just hit store shelves, and I was far more inclined towards the attractive male dolls with mohawks. I simply couldn’t resist picking out Eitan, since he reminded me so fondly of Punkz Eitan (one of my grail Bratz dolls, if you will). I had no regrets about getting Eitan instead of Cloe (if she had actually been stocked that night), however in time, my Party line felt incomplete. This was not the first instance where I had bought all the other characters from a Bratz collection, but refrained from getting Cloe. Not only was Cloe’s absence starting to get under my skin, but I also knew her extra clothes would come in handy. I had very few spare Bratz clothing items, and was acquiring nude/moochy flea market dolls at the flea market at too quick a rate. This is where the story takes its notorious turn. It was a few days before Christmas 2011--Dad, Colleen, and I were all headed to the local Wal-Mart to get our groceries for the week. I’m not sure why, but Party Cloe had been on my mind that afternoon. I knew that if I casually mentioned her, Dad would offer to take me out to complete the set. I can admit that I always had a way of getting what I wanted from himColleen calls it “charm speak.” Anyways, we were downtown, only ten minutes or so from Wal-Mart, when I brought up that Miss Cloe was the only doll I was missing from the line. I also made sure to throw it out there that this was an older set, and probably wouldn’t be in stores for much longer. Immediately, Dad took the bait. Instead of suggesting we go toy shopping after getting groceries, he abandoned the food run altogether. I was honestly not expecting that to happen, but I was pleased. So for several hours that afternoon, we drove around to countless stores, on the quest for the elusive Party Cloe. We would make pit stops at home to see if she was listed on store websites or , but at the time she was nowhere to be found. Dad made phone calls to stores, who fed him false information, claiming Cloe was in stock, when she in fact was not. We even made lists of all the stores we could check, ones we had not ever been to. It was hours and hours, and miles and miles, and store after store of searching for Cloe. But by the late hours of the evening, we had given up hope. This is how I ended up with my 2011 Rock and Wild Wild West dolls. Dad did not want me to go home empty handed, so he insisted I pick out other dolls. And in his truest over the top fashion, he let me get seven dolls, even though we were broke at the time! Although I loved my Rock and Wild Wild West dolls very much, there was still a hole in my heart for the missing Party Cloe. Dad and I continued to seek her out over the next few months, at other stores, but she never appeared. In the spring of 2012, Dad passed away after his health continued to deteriorate. I held onto that night we went searching for Cloe, and never forgot Dad’s generosity and the fact he cared so much about finding me a particular Bratz doll. Before the year was over, I finally found my first Party Cloe, the doll on the left side of this photo. I happened to check at the opportune moment, because I found a “Buy It Now” option that was a steal. I got her for exactly $18, which included the shipping fees. I remember making an offer on the doll to see if I could get her for a little cheaper, which is how I ended up with such a bargain. What makes this doll that much more special is that she was ordered on New Year’s Eve 2012. She obviously did not arrive until 2013 though. This doll was my dream Party Cloe--it was an amazing feeling to have finally gotten my hands on one after all that searching. Although you’d think that my first Party Cloe would be the more special one, I must admit that the doll on the right means more to me. Despite already having purchased my dream Party doll, the circumstances in which the second gal joined my collection are remarkable. It was Colleen’s birthday in February of 2013just a few short weeks after my other Cloe arrived in the mail. She had the unfortunate luck of having a doctor’s appointment that day. But on the bright side, this meant we could pop in at Big Lots on the way home. As we walked into the meager toy section of Big Lots, I spotted Party Cloe, in all her glory, on the shelf. It honestly felt like this doll was meant for me. I don’t recall that there were other Party dolls at the store that day, although I could be wrong. While she cost a dollar more than my doll, and I didn’t “need” a duplicate, I could not leave this gal behind. Why? In a bittersweet twist of fate, this Cloe turned up at a store that Dad and I had checked the year before. I remember it was around the same time frame and everything--not long before he went to the hospital for the last time. Colleen had a job interview that day, so Dad and I were killing time at shopping centers waiting for her to be done. The search for Party Cloe had obviously not been dropped, so naturally we hoped she’d show up at one of the stores we went into. While we came home empty handed that day, I feel like it was fate that I ended up with a Party Cloe from this particular Big Lots. I so vividly remember Dad and I checking the toy section for her a year earlier, and then stopping in at McDonald’s afterwards. I guess in some strange way, I believe with all my heart that this was the Party Cloe I was supposed to have--the one Dad would have bought me!
