These hose barbs are intended for use with poly pipe. After warming up the end of poly pipe, the barb end is pushed into the pipe and creates a watertight, durable seal that won't budge even under the weight of handing pipe down a well.
Stainless steel hose clamps are attached on either end of the pipe where the barb was inserted for an additional security - Shop Hose Clamps here.
